‘Solid’ Perkins moves up depth chart

Aug 13, 2014

Georgia Tech A-back Charles Perkins struggled through two seasons at B-back before moving last season to A-back as a junior. He began to adapt over the course of the season, and may be breaking through as a senior. He was moved to the top of the depth chart at one of the two A-back spots after not being listed among the top five A-backs on the chart coming out of spring practice.

“He’s been good at blocking, running the ball,” coach Paul Johnson said. “He’s just solid. He’s dropped some weight and he looks good.”

One of the tighter competitions is at center, where Freddie Burden is trying to hold off Thomas O’Reilly, with freshman Andrew Marshall also competing.

“I thought that Freddie probably came out ahead,” offensive line coach Mike Sewak said. “He was a little bit more physical (last) week.”
