Two former Georgia Tech coaches on Paul Johnson’s staff have found jobs at Georgia State. Shiel Wood, who coached safeties at Tech this past season, has been hired to be the cornerbacks coach for coach Shawn Elliott, according to a person familiar with the situation. Georgia State has also hired John Sisk as head strength coach for the Panthers’ football team.

Sisk’s hire is official; the school made an announcement Tuesday. Wood’s hire is not official yet.

Wood has close connections to Georgia State defensive coordinator Nate Fuqua. The two were teammates at Wofford and then coached together at Wofford before Fuqua took the defensive coordinator job at Georgia State going into the 2017 season. Wood actually succeeded Fuqua as defensive coordinator at Wofford, holding the job for one season before coming to Tech.

Neither Wood nor Sisk were retained by new Tech coach Geoff Collins.

247 Sports was first to report Wood’s hire.
