Georgia Tech A-back Charles Perkins will be back for the Miami game Oct. 4, coach Paul Johnson said Wednesday, as the team held its first practice of its open week. Perkins missed Saturday’s win over Virginia Tech with a lower-leg injury.

The team practiced in shoulder pads and shorts Wednesday in a session Johnson rated as “good.” With the three practices this week, the Jackets are devoting time both to addressing their own errors and also to begin rehearsing the game plan for the Miami game.

“We’ll take this as an extra couple of days for Miami,” he said.

Johnson’s scouting report of the Hurricanes, who have beaten Tech five consecutive times: “They look like the same Miami team. They’ve got really good athletes. (Running back) Duke Johnson’s a great player. The freshman quarterback (Brad Kaaya) is getting better every week. Up until a week ago, they played really good run defense. Nebraska exposed them a little bit, but they’d been pretty good prior to that.”
