Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson described his relationship with outgoing athletic director Mike Bobinski as cordial on Tuesday. Bobinski told the staff on Tuesday that he was accepting a similar position at Purdue.

"It's not like we got into a fist fight every day in the hall," Johnson said. "We got along and were cordial to each other. Sometimes all that gets blown out of proportion."

Johnson said Bobinski, hired as Tech’s athletic director in Jan. 2013, called him on Tuesday to tell him of his decision.

A day after saying that Georgia Tech was falling behind other ACC schools in terms of facilities, Johnson declined to say what he wanted to see in the next athletic director, instead deferring to school president Dr. Bud Peterson, who will use a search firm to help find the next athletic director.

“I’d like to have a good A.D. that is going to be good for the athletic program,” Johnson said. “I’m sure Dr. Peterson has the same thing in mind.”

Johnson did say that he has no interest in the job.

“I think that my job is a tough job, that one might be harder,” Johnson said.
