At his Tuesday news conference, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said that the Duke defense through two games looked like “the old Pittsburgh Steelers.”
On the ACC coaches teleconference Wednesday, Duke coach David Cutcliffe returned fire as the two teams prepare to play Saturday in Durham, N.C.
Said Cutcliffe, “I think they’re at as high a level as anybody we’ve seen on tape.”
Cutcliffe said that amid the frequent discussion of the productivity of Tech’s option offense, “I think what gets lost in that sometimes is they’re an extremely well-coached, extremely talented bunch of athletes on both sides of the ball and an experienced football team.”
Injury report: Cornerback Jemea Thomas returned to practice Wednesday after wearing a red jersey (held out for injury) Tuesday. A-back Deon Hill, listed Monday as questionable because of an illness, will not play Saturday, Johnson said.
B.J. Bostic likely will start in Hill’s place.
