Hunter Atkinson, who left Georgia’s football team last summer, is going to join Georgia State’s team.
Atkinson arrived at Georgia in the summer of 2014, but left less than two weeks later to “concentrate on opportunities associated with his long-term career goals.”
A tight end from West Hall High School, he caught 51 passes for 704 yards and 11 touchdowns to earn Class AAA all-state honors his senior season.
Atkinson had an offer from Georgia State but committed to Cincinnati while in high school. He flipped to the Bulldogs near Signing Day.
Atkinson said he will enroll for the fall semester and join the team in January.
“I feel like it’s a good fit for me,” he said. “The coaches there make me feel as if I’m home in my living room! I believe I will be successful there.”
