More than one-fourth of the households in the Atlanta television market watched Clemson rout Alabama for college football’s national championship Monday night.

The game delivered a 25.5 Nielsen rating in Atlanta, meaning 25.5 percent of the market’s TV homes tuned in on average to the telecast across the ESPN networks.

Atlanta posted the fourth highest rating among the nation’s 56 metered markets for the game. The Birmingham, Ala., market led the way with a 56.6 rating, followed by Greenville, S.C., at 36.9 and New Orleans at 28.6.

An average of about 600,000 homes in the Atlanta market watched the game.

Nationally, Clemson’s 44-16 victory averaged a 14.6 rating across the metered markets, the lowest for a championship game in the five-year history of the College Football Playoff.
