ATHENS -- Nothing burns up Hines Ward more than seeing the best football players in Georgia sign anywhere other than Georgia.

“It drives me crazy," Ward said Monday. “There’s just no need in it. I remember when I was in school and Jacquez Green and some other guys went to Florida and won a bunch of games down there. Georgia has been so close for so long and is going to win a championship soon if these guys just stay at home like I did. They've got everything they need right here.”

Ward, a 1997 UGA graduate and former Super Bowl MVP, was back on campus to play in the Stadion Classic at UGA Celebrity golf tournament. Ward was one of nearly a dozen former Georgia football stars to play before the Nationwide Tour takes over the course the rest of the week. Ward played with former teammate Mike Bobo. Other lettermen participating included Kevin Butler, Clint Boling, Robert Edwards, David Greene, David Pollack and Matt Stinchcomb.

Ward, who retired from the NFL in March after 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, said he hopes to coach at Georgia some day but currently is considering a career in broadcasting. He attended several of the Bulldogs' spring practices in April.
