Brennan Morgan hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to power Kennesaw State past East Tennessee State 11-7 in the opening round of the Atlantic Sun baseball tournament in Fort Myers, Fla.
In an interesting strategy, after Max Pentecost, who earlier extended his hitting streak to 36 games, hit a triple to lead off the inning, ETSU elected to walk the next two batters to load the bases.
Morgan made them pay.
“I didn’t think it was getting out,” Morgan told Kennesaw State’s sports communications office. “I just wanted to get the job done with a sacrifice fly and next thing I know it ends up behind the wall. One of those things with a fast ball up and I let it fly.”
The Owls (34-21) have won 16 consecutive games. They will play Stetson at 5 p.m. Thursday.
