Georgia Tech’s work on ball security mostly paid off in Saturday’s victory against Tulane at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (2-0) had just one fumble — Paul Johnson might say one fumble too many — after twice putting the ball on the ground and losing it once in last week’s season-opening rout of Alcorn State.

The negative on Saturday was the fumble was recovered by Tulane in good field position.

This mistake came on second and nine at the 25-yard line. Quarterback Justin Thomas ran right and pitched the ball to Broderick Snoddy. The ball hit Snoddy in the hands, but he couldn’t control it as the middle linebacker closed in. Tulane’s Tristan Cooper recovered it on the 24.

“We missed the mike for the umpteenth time in the half,” Johnson said. “We still should have caught the pitch. Got to look the ball in.”

Johnson said there were “bunch of” players who were failing to block the middle linebacker.

A dead-ball foul called against Parry Nickerson after the play moved the ball back to the 39. Tulane failed to score despite the good field position. Opponents are 0-for-2 trying score following a turnover this season. They scored on 9 of 18 takeaways last year.
