Play well back-to-back. Through the first five games, Georgia State has not given solid efforts in consecutive games. The team's susceptibility to overconfidence after a motivated performance speaks to a maturity deficit. After playing their best game of the season last Saturday against Morehead State, the Panthers have an opportunity to follow it up against Savannah State.
Can the running game gain traction? The Panthers can spring the big running play, but haven't been able to play a consistent ground game. Last week against Morehead State, Georgia State ran 40 times for 152 yards. However, nearly half of those yards came on the four longest runs while 17 of the 40 rushes, not counting kneeldowns, went for 2 or fewer yards.
Another shot for Star Jackson. The Alabama transfer quarterback made his long-awaited debut against Morehead State, but threw two interceptions in four pass attempts. Jackson said he was trying too hard to impress coaches. He'll likely have his second chance to show what he can do Saturday.
By the numbers
142.34
Quarterback Drew Little's passing-efficiency rating. If he were eligible for NCAA statistical rankings -- as a first-year team, Georgia State and its players are not -- he would be 18th in FCS (formerly Division I-AA).
117
Savannah State's ranking, among 117 FCS teams, in scoring defense, at 42.2 points per game.
18,569
Georgia State's average attendance after four home games. Only eight FCS schools have higher averages.
