Eric Lewis is expected to join the football coaching staff at Georgia State.
Lewis will become the defensive backs coach as soon as the hire completes the human resources process. Georgia State coach Trent Miles declined to comment until the hire is official.
Lewis will replace J.D. Williams, who resigned in the offseason to join the staff at UNLV, where he was defensive coordinator in 2012.
Lewis comes to Georgia State from Buffalo, where he coached defensive backs last year. The son of former longtime NFL assistant coach Sherman Lewis, Eric Lewis played cornerback at San Diego State.
He has previously worked at Michigan State (2001), Bucknell (2002), Ball State (2003-05), in the NFL with Green Bay (2006-07), Louisville (2008), Eastern Michigan (2009) and Weber State (2012-13).
When the hire is complete, Miles will have one position left to fill with the resignation of running backs coach Brock Lough. He left to rejoin his family in Indiana. He came to Georgia State in 2013 as a graduate assistant.
SI.com originally reported that Lewis would join Georgia State.
