Who: Georgia State vs. Appalachian State

When: 3:30 p.m. Saturday

Three things to know

1. Though Georgia State’s record fell to 2-26 under coach Trent Miles with last week’s 41-33 loss to Liberty, the Panthers have fought in almost every game. Last year’s contest at Appalachian State was one of perhaps two exceptions. Georgia State was beaten 44-0, rushing for a program-low eight yards as part of 62 total yards.

2. There was a moment in last year’s game that I’m sure neither coach has forgotten. The Mountaineers were leading 20-0 and had driven to Georgia State’s 13-yard line with three seconds remaining in the half. Appalachian State lined up for a field goal. Miles proceeded to call all three of the timeouts he had remaining. Mountaineers coach Scott Satterfield faked the field goal and Simms McElfresh, the holder, ran for a touchdown to give his team a 27-0 lead.

3. Georgia State is 1-0 in the conference, with that win coming against New Mexico State. The Mountaineers have yet to a play a conference game this season, but have victories against Old Dominion, Howard and Wyoming.
