Georgia's offensive line was included among 10 units nationwide as semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award on Tuesday.
Since 2015, the Joe Moore trophy goes to the offensive line deemed the “most outstanding unit in college football.” Joining the the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs as semifinalists are the offensive lines of No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Clemson, No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Oregon, No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 14 Wisconsin and Washington.
“There was healthy debate this year, which required a thorough reexamination of game tape,” said Cole Cubelic, SEC Network sideline analyst and chairman of the Joe Moore Award voting committee. “We also solicited the opinions of more than 30 head coaches that had personally faced the O-line units under consideration. This award matters to the O-line community and the voting committee doesn’t take that responsibility lightly.”
Georgia's offensive line, under the direction of fourth-year coach Sam Pittman features three All-America candidates in left tackle Andrew Thomas, right tackle Isaiah Wilson and left guard Solomon Kindley, plus Cade Mays and Ben Cleveland at right guard and Trey Hill at center. Kindley is the only senior and there are four former 5-star prospects in the position room.
Georgia’s O-line averages 6 feet 5 inches, 328.6 pounds, making it the biggest unit in school history. The Bulldogs are ranked second in the nation with only six sacks allowed and fourth in the SEC in rushing at 208.6 yards per game.
The Joe Moore Award is judged on six criteria: toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique and finishing. Evaluations for semifinalists were made primarily through weekly review of actual game film and offensive line coach-provided cut-ups on the DragonFly Division I Network.
