Georgia dealing with rash of injuries on offense

Another week, another game without knowing what, if anything, the Georgia Bulldogs will get out of star receiver Lawrence Cager.

The graduate transfer from Miami continues to be plagued by a chronic shoulder injury that has taken him out of all or part of four games now. With his availability uncertain this past Saturday, Cager started against Auburn but did not return after making a six-yard catch in the first quarter.

Likewise, Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Cager was cleared to practice on Monday. He could not say, however, how much Cager might play Saturday when the No. 4 Bulldogs (9-1, 6-1 SEC) play host to No. 24 Texas A&M.

“It will just be a matter of if he can sustain,” Smart said.

Cager is not the only injury concern for the much-anticipated contest against the Aggies. Cade Mays (ankle) and Ben Cleveland (toe), Georgia’s top two players at right guard, both were limited by injuries against Auburn.

Smart said Mays would not practice Monday and he was “hopeful” that Cleveland would. He did not speculate about their availability on Saturday.

If neither can start or play, the Bulldogs will go with sophomore Jamaree Salyer, who finished the game this past Saturday.
