Nick Chubb held up just fine during his 38-carry, 42-touch, 174-yard performance against Missouri this past Saturday. The question was, how did his body respond in the days after.

Quite well, according to coach Mark Richt.

The freshman tailback from Cedartown came in for for a volunteer physical therapy session on Sunday that included some yoga and other stretching and that apparently helped.

“When he was done, he felt good,” Richt said. “(Monday) at practice he looked good. On Sundays our guys can choose to get a lift in on Sunday or Monday, whenever they want to get it done. Some guys would rather get it done the day after the game to get the lactic acid out and he didn’t look sore yesterday.”

Chubb had 31 rushing attempts entering the Mizzou game and then added 38 more. That was the sixth most by a Georgia player in school history. Only former Bulldogs Herschel Walker (43 against South Carolina) had more carries in a game as a freshman. Thomas Rawls of Central Michigan is the only player this season to have more attempts than Chubb (he has rushed 40 times in a game this season twice) in the entire FBS. That 38 was the sixth most in Georgia history.

“I knew going into the game that we could still win with Chubb,” quarterback Hutson Mason said. “You just kind of worry about how many times can he carry the ball. Going into the game I’d have never guessed he’d get the ball 38 times. I didn’t realize he was getting the ball that much during the game. I remember him taking some hard licks and he got up. He’s just a tough cat.

“You forget and don’t appreciate what a guy this young is doing in the SEC. You’ve got an 18-year-old kid who just graduated from high school kind of carrying the team on his back. That’s pretty remarkable and incredible for such a young guy.”
