After being dismissed from Georgia and Alabama, defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor now finds himself at Southeastern Louisiana, an FCS school.
ESPN's Outside the Lines first reported Taylor's enrollment at SLU.
Taylor was dismissed from UGA in July 2014 after being involved in a cash-checking scheme and arrested on an aggravated assault/family violence charge on his then-girlfriend. Those cases are pending in Athens. He spent 2014 playing football for a community college, and then transferred to Alabama last January. In March, he was arrested for assault, again for allegedly attacking a different girlfriend.
He was dismissed by Alabama coach Nick Saban despite Taylor’s girlfriend recanting her story to police and subsequently being arrested for filing a false police report. Saban defended his decision to initially give Taylor a second chance.
Taylor pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief in the Alabama arrest.
Taylor was not eligible to transfer to another SEC school after the conference passed a rule at this year’s meetings that states a player can’t transfer within the conference if he’s been kicked off the original team for serious misconduct. Taylor’s arrests while with Georgia and Alabama were partly the catalyst for creating the rule.
Taylor won’t be eligible to play football until 2016, his final year of eligibility.
