Jeremiah Attaochu, OLB
Though he started only one game as a freshman last season, teammates voted Attaochu the Tech player “most likely to be an NFL star.” Attaochu has the build, athletic ability and smarts to play the outside linebacker spot in Tech’s 3-4 defense, from which he’ll be called on to create havoc.
Julian Burnett, ILB
Coach Paul Johnson said Burnett might be the best player on the team. Small for the position but full of punch, Burnett led Tech in tackles last season despite starting only eight games. Now a starter, Burnett says he’s even more hungry to make plays.
Stephen Hill, WR
After a drop-plagued 2010 season, the player tabbed the heir apparent to NFL first-round pick Demaryius Thomas has impressed teammates and coaches with better practice habits and conditioning and more maturity.
Orwin Smith, A-back
Smith wants the Tech offense to produce more big plays than it did last season, and he’s likely the guy to do it. The speedy Smith had six runs of 20 yards or more in 2010 and delivered Tech’s longest touchdown run.
Louis Young, CB
If Attaochu isn’t the team’s most improved player from last season, it might be his sophomore classmate. A productive preseason followed a strong spring and summer. Young has the tools to play in the NFL.
