The College Football Hall of Fame in downtown Atlanta will have a leadership change.

John Stephenson, the hall’s president and CEO, will leave on Nov. 9 and be replaced on an interim basis by John Christie, who has been the attraction’s chief operating officer.

The Hall of Fame’s board plans to conduct a search for a permanent successor to Stephenson, who has accepted a position as director of strategic partnerships and special projects at Chick-fil-A.

Stephenson, an attorney, was president and CEO of the Hall of Fame through its construction and first year-plus of operation.

“I cannot adequately express how grateful I am to have been able to work with the amazing men and women that made the Hall of Fame vision a reality for our great city and state,” Stephenson said in a statement. “The Hall’s business is in good shape as we graduate from the ‘development’ and ‘opening’ phases of this project into ongoing operation of this amazing attraction. The timing is right for my family and me to take advantage of this new opportunity and to make room for long-term leadership at the Hall.”
