Georgia moved up to 10th from 15th in the latest College Football Rankings. But coach Mark Richt found out about it after the fact. He said he has yet to watch the live television show where the rankings are unveiled each Tuesday.
“I have not watched it yet,” Richt said. “It’s kind of in the heart of when we’re watching practice film and game-planning on Tuesday. But I do check to see where we ended up.”
The Bulldogs (8-2, 6-2 SEC) are fourth among SEC teams in the poll, behind No. 1 Alabama (9-1, 6-1), No. 4 Mississippi State (9-1, 5-1) and No. 8 Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2).
Richt said he fielded a question on Wednesday’s SEC coaches’ teleconference call about “game control” being a big factor for the committee’s rankings.
“I had no idea what they were talking about,” said Richt, who then asked a reporter to explain.
Richt laughed after learning it’s a metric designed to gauge a team’s level of domination of an opponent.
“I wonder who invented that?” he said. “We’re just trying to beat the Buccaneers this weekend.”
As for being 10th, he said, “it’s nice to be moving up. That’s a good sign.”
