Former football standout Elton Robert “Bob” Taylor died on Thursday in LaGrange. He was 70.
Taylor was perhaps best known for scoring the winning touchdown the famous “Flea-Flicker” play to defeat fifth-ranked and defending national champion Alabama 18-17 in 1965. He retired as a motivational speaker for Tenneco Company as a motivational speaker.
Survivors include Taylor’s daughter, Lisa Taylor (Brett) Stewart; grandson, Brock Stewart; siblings, Beth Taylor McDonald, Jo Taylor (Dan) Payne, Mal (Lita) Taylor, Flor Taylor, Hope (Debra) Taylor, and Martin (Carolyn) Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange with Pastor Hope Taylor officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service time. Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Taylor.
