Malcolm Mitchell did not make an appearance on Georgia’s Woodruff Practice Fields on Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean he is less likely to play against South Carolina, coach Mark Richt said.
The junior wide receiver actually spent the afternoon running on an underwater treadmill in the training room. That wasn’t a bad option considering Wednesday’s mid-90 temperatures and high humidity.
“He has been jogging,” Richt said following Wednesday’s workout. “He didn’t go on land by design. He had about three days in a row a ran on land. He was in the tub today and he’ll get back on land tomorrow and maybe try to just kind of run some routes without a ball being thrown at him and all that. We just want him to get just a taste of doing a little of that and just see how he progresses. I’d just say he’s day-to-day.”
Richt provided less details about fellow junior wideout Justin Scott-Wesley. Scott-Wesley has been sidelined with knee and ankle injuries since mid-season last year but also expected to be disciplined for last fall’s arrest for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Richt was asked if Scott-Wesley had served his suspension by missing the opener against Clemson or if that game didn’t count because he was injured or if his punishment had yet to be completed.
“I always reserve the right to decide when a guy plays,” Richt said tersely.
