Auburn hasn’t said whether quarterback Nick Marshall, cited for marijuana possession last week, will be allowed to play in the Tigers’ season opener against Arkansas. But Arkansas coach Bret Bielema expects Marshall to play.
“I think, knowing what I know as a head coach, Nick will be there,” Bielema said Wednesday at SEC Media Days. “I think we want to play against the best, and I’m sure he’ll be there.”
The game is at Auburn.
Bielema said opening against the defending SEC champion is “a motivating factor” for Arkansas, which seeks to rebound from a 3-9 (0-8 SEC) record in his first season as the Razorbacks’ coach.
Early in his meeting with the media Wednesday, Bielema said: “I’ll take a minute to talk about last year. That’s about all I need.” Later, he said: “Year 2, although we don’t know the record yet, my full-heart belief is it’s going to be better than Year 1.”
