The University of Miami received some good news on the injury front at Wednesday’s practice.

Tailback Duke Johnson, who did not return after leaving last Saturday’s 33-20 loss to Florida State in the third quarter with a foot injury, participated in the 90-minute practice, coach Al Golden said.

Golden did not say if Johnson was limited in any way and practices are closed this week to reporters.

“Was he 100 percent?” Golden said. “No, but he was over 90, well enough to p ractice.”

Golden has not specified what injury Johnson sustained against FSU except to say it was not the turf toe that was previously bothering the freshman.

After a fast start to his first season, Johnson has struggled recently. In his last four games, Johnson has combined to rush 43 times for 135 yards with only two of those runs extending beyond 10 yards.

Rest prescribed: The Hurricanes did not practice on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday and will have another day off on Friday.

“I’m trying to protect the team from a physical standpoint,” Golden said. “It’s just been a strange year, strange schedule. That combined with the youth of the team — right now my No. 1 priority is get the team healthy, and not just physically but mentally.”
