University of Miami linebacker Gabe Terry was arrested Friday morning and charged with felony possession of marijuana.

Terry, a Palm Beach Central High School graduate, remained at the Miami Dade Pre-Trial Detention Center in Miami-Dade County as of Friday evening and was set for a hearing at 9 a.m Saturday.

UM announced that Terry, 19, a rising sophomore, has been indefinitely suspended. His name was removed from the Hurricanes’ roster.

An arrest report was not immediately available but jail records show Terry was booked into custody at 8:41 a.m. Friday and charged with possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, a felony, and resisting an officer without violence, a misdemeanor. According to jail documents, Terry was in possession of 26.8 grams of pot.

Bond is $5,000 for the felony charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor.

“I am aware of what happened today and saddened by the event,” Palm Beach Central coach Rod Harris told the Post. “It’s an unfortunate situation. The Palm Beach Central football program will not turn our backs on an alumni. We will try to help him in any way we can.”

Terry has a troubled history.

At age 14, Terry was arrested in Palm Beach County on burglary and larceny charges and was sent to Boys Town, a center for wayward youth near Omaha, Neb. Terry’s father is serving a life sentence for murder while his mother was given a 24-month federal prison sentence for her role in a bank robbery.

Terry returned home shortly before his senior year in high school and won a state championship in wrestling at Palm Beach Central and gained the attention of UM coach Al Golden as a three-star linebacker for the football team.

“Kids have to have an opportunity to redeem themselves as long as they’re willing to accept the discipline, the change in partners and the different choices that you have to make that goes along with that,” Golden said during spring of 2012. “I clearly believe that he’s done that.”

Terry played in seven games as a freshman, mostly on special teams. He was suspended before UM’s game against Virginia on Nov. 10 and was also held out the following week against USF.

Terry is the second UM player arrested since the end of last season. Cornerback Thomas Finnie was charged with burglary and grand theft for stealing a laptop from a university dorm room in December and was kicked off the team.
