ATHENS — The Red team, led by quarterback Hutson Mason, defeated the Black team 27-24 in Georgia’s annual G-Day spring intrasquad game Saturday afternoon.

The Red team featured Georgia’s first-team offense, while the Black team had new coordinator Jeremy Pruitt’s first-team defense.

The Red team took a 17-7 lead in the first half, scoring on a 34-yard field goal by Marshall Morgan, a 10-yard Mason-to-Reggie Davis touchdown pass, a two-yard run by Todd Gurley and a two-yard TD run by Todd Gurley. Mason completed his first five passes and 17 of 25 in the first half. He played sparingly after that.

A touchdown run by backup tailback Brendan Douglas stretched the Red’s lead to 24-10 in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback candidate Faton Bauta had a strong finish for the Black team, connecting with Uriah LeMay and A.J. Turman on touchdown passes.

The game’s defensive highlights included interceptions by cornerback Aaron Davis, a walk-on who vaulted to the top of the depth chart at his position this spring, and safety Brendan Langley.

Georgia announced attendance of 46,073.
