Georgia Tech guard Solomon Poole underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Poole played through the injury after sustaining it before enrolling at Tech in December after graduating early from high school.
“I’m confident, with his work ethic and the rehab that he will undergo, that he’ll make a full recovery and have a successful sophomore season,” coach Brian Gregory said in a statement.
Poole, a rising sophomore, played in 21 games for Tech, averaging 1.8 points and 1.0 assists as a backup for point guard Mfon Udofia. Poole will compete with Corey Heyward and Travis Jorgenson, a high school senior committed to Tech, for the starting job next season.
Poole was in a sling Saturday when he, Gregory and athletic director Mike Bobinski represented the school at midcourt at the Georgia Dome during the Louisville-Wichita State game. Tech, which is serving as the host institution for the Final Four, was thanked by the NCAA over the public-address system and presented with a ball.
