Florida put together a pair of four-run innings and drew a season-high 10 walks en route to defeating LSU 11-7 on Sunday in Gainesville to complete a three-game sweep.
The sweep of the Tigers (20-8-1, 3-5-1 SEC), who are ranked No. 8 in the nation by Baseball America, was the fourth ever in the regular season by the Gators (19-9, 6-3). UF has won four straight games overall, including a 4-1 victory over No. 1 Florida State on Tuesday in Jacksonville.
The Gators have won 13 of their past 16 games and are tied with South Carolina atop the SEC East standings.
John Sternagel was 1-for-2 with three RBIs for UF, and teammates Richie Martin, Peter Alonso and Mike Fahrman each added two RBIs. Harrison Bader hit a solo homer for the Gators. UF scored four runs in the third and then again in the fifth to break the game open, then held on from there.
Freshman left-hander Kirby Snead (1-0) pitched four innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory. The Gators will host FAU at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Miami 12, No. 25 N.C. State 5: Freshman Zack Collins hit two homers and had six RBIs as the visiting Hurricanes (17-12, 8-4 ACC) defeated the Wolfpack (15-11, 3-9) to cap a three-game sweep.
Miami scored four runs in the eighth to break a 5-5 tie. Tyler Palmer hit an RBI double, and Collins followed with a three-run homer. The Canes added three more runs in the ninth, with Brandon Lopez hitting a two-run single.
It was Collins’ first multi-homer game in college. The former Plantation-American Heritage standout has six home runs on the season. He also had an RBI groundout in the first, a run-scoring single in the third and a solo homer in the fifth.
UM, which trails only Virginia Tech (10-2) in the ACC Coastal Division standings, will host Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
FAU 3, Southern Miss 1: Tyler Rocklein hit a two-run homer in the third inning to put FAU (15-12, 4-8 Conference USA) ahead for good and junior right-hander Drew Jackson (3-0) allowed just one run in 8 2/3 innings as the Owls defeated the visiting Golden Eagles (15-13, 6-3) to end a five-game skid and avoid a three-game sweep.
