Cavaliers’ Kyle Korver excused from Raptors game due to death of brother

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyle Korver was excused from Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors due to the death of his brother, Kirk, the team announced on Twitter.

The 27-year-old Kirk, a former University of Missouri- Kansas City basketball player from 2013-2014, was the youngest of four Korver brothers, according to ESPN.

“We are very sad to share that Cavaliers guard Kyle Korver’s brother, Kirk, passed away today,” the Cavaliers wrote on Twitter. “Kyle has been excused from the team to be with his family. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt best to Kyle and his entire family as they go through this very difficult time.”

Kyle Korver was absent from Saturday’s game against the Chicago Bulls due to a family emergency, but returned for Monday’s wi over the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN.

Korver has played in Cleveland since last season when he was traded after five seasons with the Atlanta Hawks.
