Chicago Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic was sent to the hospital on Tuesday after he was involved in a “serious altercation” with teammate Bobby Portis in practice, according to a report by Shams Charania of The Vertical.

In a statement Wednesday morning, the Bulls revealed Mirotic suffered a concussion and maxillary fractures and will most likely need surgery. Mirotic is expected to be out four to six weeks.

As of Tuesday night, Mirotic was still hospitalized, undergoing tests, according to Shams.

ESPN’s Michele Steele reported on Wednesday afternoon Portis was suspended for eight games but will still be able to practice with the team.

During the altercation, Portis reportedly hit Mirotic's face with a "cheap shot."

In three seasons with the Bulls, Mirotic averaged 10.8 points, 1.2 assists and 5.3 rebounds.
