Kennesaw State coach Brian Bohannon knows that his team must play better on special teams Saturday against North Carolina A&T (5 p.m., Fifth Third Bank Stadium, ESPN-Plus).

“We’re still not doing anything to change the game in special teams right now,” Bohannon said. “I think everybody must keep doing their job a little bit harder. We want to be able to create some momentum plays. In a game like this, you’re going to have to do it all to give yourself a chance to win.”

When asked about what he wants to see differently from his special teams, Bohannon referenced what his team did in spring practice.

“Coming out of the spring, we were able to do some different stuff (like) block some punts,” Bohannon said. “We haven’t been able to do anything. You hope everybody goes do their jobs and play hard and some of those things will happen.”

In the Owls’ 34-15 win against Hampton on Saturday, Bohannon was proud of team’s ability to play clean and do the simple things.

“The positives from Saturday were that we didn’t do anything to beat ourselves,” Bohannon said.

The Owls had zero turnovers in the game.

“I thought we covered kicks better, with a little more urgency,” Bohannon said. “We made all of our kicks.”

Overall, Bohannon wants his team to take the Aggies seriously and called the Aggies a team with “a chip on their shoulder.”

“I told my guys, ‘Listen now, you’ve better be ready to play,’” Bohannon said. “‘They’re going to come in here hungry. This is their first year in the Big South, and we better be ready to play in this game.’ We’ve got our work cut out for us Saturday.”

North Carolina A&T is playing in its first season in the Big South Conference after moving from the MEAC. During their time in the MEAC, the Aggies claimed four Celebration Bowl titles at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with their last coming in 2019.
