In just his first day at fullback on Monday, freshman Detric Bing-Dukes got reps with the first and second team. Given an undisclosed injury to junior Merritt Hall and Quayvon Hick’s flip to tight end earlier in the offseason, it makes sense.

Georgia brought in Bing-Dukes as a linebacker, but he said he accepts the move to offense as an opportunity to immediately help his team.

“I took it as a win-win situation,” Bing-Dukes said Tuesday after the team’s day off from practice. “I probably could see the field faster and I could help out the team. I feel like it’ll be easy for me to bounce back.”

And he plans to bounce back to defense if allowed. The Bulldogs’ linebacking corps is stacked, including Amarlo Herrera, Ramik Wilson and Reggie Carter all at inside linebacker. Herrera’s and Wilson’s depatures after this season will leave room for Bing-Dukes at the position, should the offense be willing to return him to defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt and Hall not face a career-threatening injury.

“I feel like it’ll last just for this year and then I’ll move back to linebacker,” Bing-Dukes said. “I don’t want to speak too far ahead but right now I would want to move back after this year.”

After one day in his new position, Bing-Dukes said he has a lot of catching up to do, but fullbacks Taylor Maxey and Cameron Faulkner have already helped guide him into his new role.

“They accepted me when I came in,” Bing-Dukes said. “I have to learn real fast so they make sure I learn the plays and they take the time to teach me when I need help.”
