Dream rookie guard Shoni Schimmel may be struggling to find success on the court, but she’s found it off the court — with the fans.
Schimmel tops the league’s list of bestselling jerseys at WNBAStore.com since the start of the 2014 season, the WNBA announced Tuesday. The Dream claimed the No. 1 spot for top-selling merchandise. Schimmel’s jersey sells for $59.95 at the WNBAStore.com.
Schimmel has started two games and played in 20 of 21 games this season. The eighth overall draft pick in 2014, Schimmel’s successful college career at Louisville may have something to do with her continued popularity as a professional player. She ranks fifth in NCAA Division I history with 387 career 3-pointers.
As of Monday, Schimmel ranked sixth in the WNBA for 3-point attempts (86), but made only 28 and ranks 26th in 3-point percentage (32.6 percent).
Etc.: The Dream's Angel McCoughtry is one of four athletes nominated for an ESPY as the best WNBA player of 2014. McCoughtry, who ranks third in the league in points per game (at 20.0), is up against Maya Moore, a Collins Hill High graduate. The ESPYs air live at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Voting is open online until the show begins. … The Dream plays at the New York Liberty at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the team's only morning game of the season. The Dream is 2-1 against the Liberty this season.
