Hawks’ reserve center Edy Tavares suffered a hip contusion and was limited to just eight minutes in an NBA Development League game Friday night.

The Hawks assigned Tavares to the D-League on Wednesday and he was sent to the Austin Spurs. He was expected to have a short stay in Austin with games against Idaho on Friday and Saturday.

The injury is not considered serious but was described as a “good bruise.” The Hawks issued an injury report Saturday afternoon that listed Tavares as probable to play tonight.

The 7-foot-3 Tavares had zero points and two rebounds before being injured early in Austin’s 93-85 win. He did not return.

This is the sixth D-League assignment for the rookie this season. He has appeared in just eight games for the Hawks and averaged 2.4 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.3 minutes. The Hawks play at the Heat Sunday.
