Thabo Sefolosha knew it was bad right away.

He’s been here before.

The Hawks recently announced that the guard/forward will miss the next six to eight weeks with a right calf strain suffered 2:21 into Friday’s game against the Trail Blazers. An MRI exam confirmed the diagnosis.

Sefolosha told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Wednesday that he heard a ‘pop’ when he injured the calf. He said the injury occurred when landed after a jump and that there was nothing out of the ordinary on the play. Sefolosha described the strain as a Grade III.

Sefolosha missed 17 games last season, from March 2 to April 6, while playing with the Thunder with a left calf strain. That’s how he immediately knew the severity of the latest injury. That original diagnosis called for Sefolosha to miss three to four weeks.

Sefolosha is averaging 5.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 45 games, including seven starts, with the Hawks this season. Before the injury, he appeared in every game but one due to the flu. He missed his third straight game Wednesday.
