There will be no Olympics for Germany and Dennis Schroder.
The Hawks guard missed the final of three free-throw attempts with three seconds remaining and Spain defeated Germany 77-76 Thursday in Berlin. The loss in the final game of Pool B play left Germany with a 1-4 record. It will not advance to the next round of the Olympic qualifier EuroBasket 2015 tournament.
Schroder finished with a game-high 26 points and led Germany’s fourth-quarter comeback that fell short. Schroder was the game-high scorer in each of the past three games, all losses. He also had seven assists, six rebounds and two turnovers.
The Germany loss was also the final game for the national team for Mavericks’ star Dirk Nowitzki.
Pau Gasol pulled down the rebound of Schroder’s final miss to secure the win for Spain, which moves on to the next round with Italy, Serbia and Turkey. He finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
