Tiago Splitter won’t get that return to San Antonio he may have envisioned.

The Hawks center has missed the past three games with a sore right hip and it doesn’t appear he will get back on the court anytime soon. The Hawks play at the Spurs Saturday in what would have been Splitter’s first game in San Antonio since he was traded to the Hawks this summer.

“It’s really not good right now,” Splitter told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution before Friday’s game against the Grizzlies. “I wish we could take care of it soon and I’ll be able to play but right now it’s feeling sore and not ready to play.

“We don’t know yet (when he will be able to return). At first we thought it was going to be quick but it is not getting (better) as quick as we thought.”

Splitter was left last Saturday’s game at the Cavaliers after one half – a total of 9:28 in which he had four points and no rebounds. He said that his hip pain became too great to play when he got cold sitting on the bench. Splitter, who has missed games in the past with calf issues, said this is the first time he has experienced a hip injury.

“Definitely something you don’t do in one game,” Splitter said.

Splitter played his first five NBA seasons with the Spurs, winning a world championship in 2013-14. With the Spurs, he averaged 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds a game. He was acquired by the Hawks for Giorgos Printezis and a 2017 second-round draft pick on July 9. As a Hawk, he has averaged 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14 games, including one start.
