Al Horford took part in three-on-three contact drills Tuesday as the Hawks center took another step in his rehabilitation from a torn right pectoral muscle.

Horford has spent the previous three days limited to two-on-two contact drills. Following practice, Horford teamed with Adreian Payne and Kent Bazemore for a game against Mike Muscala, Dexter Pittman and Jarell Eddie.

Horford said Monday that he felt good in recent two-on-two workouts and hoped to increase the contact work Tuesday.

Horford must move to four-on-four and then five-on-five contact before being cleared to play in an exhibition game. Horford said he does plans to play in a preseason game. Barring a setback, he appears on track. The Hawks play their next three exhibitions on the road against Memphis (Saturday), Miami (Oct. 14) and Chicago (Oct. 16).

The Hawks anticipate that Horford will be ready for the season opener Oct. 29 at Toronto.
