The Hawks requested waivers on Lamar Patterson on Sunday. The team and Patterson agreed on the release to allow the player to address a personal matter.
The Hawks now have an open roster spot.
Patterson was inactive for Saturday’s game at the Magic. He was at the arena but was not on the bench for the game.
According to a personal familiar with the situation, Patterson “will be fine.”
Patterson played for the Hawks this season on two 10-day contracts. He was signed to a multi-year deal on Friday after the NBA trade deadline. The wing appeared in five games this season and averaged 1.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 8.0 minutes. The Hawks signed Patterson after his strong play in the NBA Development League with the Reno Big Horns.
The Hawks acquired Patterson in a draft-night deal with the Bucks after being a second-round pick in 2014 out of Pittsburgh. After a season playing professionally in Turkey, Patterson joined the Hawks and appeared in 35 games during the 2014-15 season. He averaged 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 11.3 minutes. Patterson was released by the Hawks last summer.
