The Hawks signed free agent DeQuan Jones to a training camp contract, according to a person familiar with the situation. The Hawks could add several more players before camp begins on Sept. 28.
Jones, who played at Wheeler High School in Marietta, appeared in 63 games for the Magic in 2012-13 after going undrafted out of the University of Miami for his only NBA experience. The 6-foot-8 swingman most recently played in Italy in the Lega Basket Serie A. Jones went to summer leagues with the Magic, Pacers and Pelicans and also played in the NBA Development League.
As a senior at Wheeler, Jones was named the Class 5A Player of the Year by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
