Thabo Sefolohsa underwent surgery to repair a right fibula fracture and ligament damage on Thursday, Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said.
Sefolosha suffered the season-ending injury during his arrest in New York City earlier this month. Sefolosha said his injuries were caused by New York police during the incident. He and teammate Pero Antic, also arrested, said they will contest the charges.
“I think everything went well,” Budenholzer said Friday. “He is in very good hands. Now, the timeline for his recovery and all the steps along the way will be established. … We feel good.”
According to one person familar with the situation. Sefolosha is expected to be back to full basketball activities in about six months.
The surgery was performed at the OrthoCarolina Foot and Ankle Institute in Charlotte, N.C. by Dr. Robert Anderson.
In other injury news, Mike Scott (back contusion) was a limited participant in practice Friday. Budenholzer said the reserve forward will need further evaluation before his playing status is known.
“He is progressing,” Budenholzer said. “We’ll know more between now and (Game 1) Sunday. I don’t think we can say either way that he is definitely in or definitely out. He went through a lot of practice today. We’ll see how he feels today and Sunday. We are hopeful he’ll be ready to go.”
