Thabo Sefolosha will miss six to eight weeks with a right calf injury, the Hawks announced Saturday.

Sefolosha was hurt 2:21 into a starting assignment in Friday’s win over the Trail Blazers. The reserve guard/forward was starting in place of DeMarre Carroll, who is out with a left Achilles strain and missed his second straight game Saturday.

Sefolosha was originally diagnosed with a calf strain and was ruled out of the rest of the game against the Trail Blazers. He underwent an MRI exam Saturday which confirmed the diagnosis. The Hawks said they will provide further updates when appropriate.

Sefolosha appeared in 45 of the Hawks’ 47 games, including seven starts. He missed two games in November with the flu. Sefolosha is averaging 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 19.0 minutes.

In his pre-game media availability, Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said of the extent of Sefolosha’s injury that “it’s going to be awhile.”

The Hawks acquired Sefolosha in an offseason sign-and-trade deal with the Thunder.

Without Carroll and Sefolosha, Kent Bazemore got his first start of the season. Budenholzer did not have a further update on the status of Carroll only to say “We are hoping it’s short term.”
