A brief recap of the Hawks’ win:

How the game was won: DeMarre Carroll led the way again with 22 points and the Hawks scored on eight of their final 11 possessions to thwart the Wizards and tie the series at a game each.

Washington pulled within 88-83 midway through the final quarter before the Hawks became infinitely more efficient down the stretch than in the fourth quarter of their Game 1 loss.

The Hawks struggled again with the Wizards’ backcourt even though point guard John Wall (left wrist) was a late scratch. Ramon Sessions scored 21 points in his absence, and Bradley Beal added 20.

Atlanta’s starting front court of Carroll, Paul Millsap (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Al Horford (18 points) combined to outscore the Washington starting frontcourt of Paul Pierce, Nene, and Marcin Gortat 58-27, however, and Atlanta outrebounded the Wizards 44-40.

Turning point: After the Wizards tied the game at 73 on the Drew Gooden jumper with 1:52 left in the third quarter, sub Kent Bazemore hit a 3-pointer from the left corner and Washington never tied nor led again.

Number: 100. The Hawks made all six of their free throws (100 percent) in the fourth quarter, and 22-of-25 overall.

Next: The Hawks will play at Washington Saturday afternoon in Game 3.
