The Hawks hope they have a good luck charm in Jami Gertz.
Gertz, the actress wife of Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler, will represent the team at the NBA Draft Lottery next month.
The lottery will be held on May 15 in Chicago.
The lottery will determine the draft order for the non-playoff teams. The Hawks finished tied for the third-worst record, with the Mavericks, in the NBA this season at 24-58. They can have no worse than the seventh overall pick. League tiebreakers will be held on Friday and that could improve Hawks chances to no worse than sixth overall.
Currently, the Hawks have a 12.9 percent chance at the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft on June 21. The Suns have a 25 percent chance and the Grizzlies have a 19.9 percent chance at the top pick.
The lottery is used to determine the top three picks, with the remaining lottery teams selecting in reverse order of record.
The Hawks just had their 10-year postseason streak end. It was the longest active streak in the Eastern Conference and second in the NBA behind the Spurs.
The last time the Hawks were in the draft lottery was 2007 when they selected Al Horford with the No. 3 overall pick. Dominique Wilkins represented the Hawks.
Ressler was part of a group that purchased the Hawks in 2015. Gertz has appeared in many movies and television shows.
