Justin Upton had no lingering issues one day after being hit in the left triceps and was in the Braves lineup for Monday’s series-opening game against the Marlins.

Upton was hit by a pitch from Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick in the third inning Sunday. He played two more innings but was replaced by Jordan Schafer following a one-hour, 39-minute rain delay.

“If we had just kept going through the rain delay and kept playing I probably would have been fine,” Upton said. “But usually when you get hit on a muscle it’s fine if you keep moving around. But if you don’t then it’ll stiffen up on you. So that hour and 40 minutes kind of killed me. I tried to go back in the cage and swing and it was just too stiff for me to go.”

Upton said he got treatment Sunday night and was sore Monday but did not have significant swelling.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez reached out to Upton for an update.

“He texted me to see how I was feeling and I told him I was good to go,” Upton said.
