The Braves rank eighth in the 15-team National League in staff ERA, registering a 3.70 ERA in 24 games entering Friday’s first game of a three-game series at Philadelphia.

That number would be higher if not for a respectable performance thus far by Braves starters.

Six pitchers (Julio Teheran, Mike Foltynewicz, Brandon McCarthy, Sean Newcomb, Anibal Sanchez and Matt Wisler) are a combined 8-3 with a 3.47 ERA in their starts. The starters have combined to pitch 129-2/3 innings. They have allowed 119 hits, 56 walks, 50 earned runs and 13 home runs while striking out 133 batters.

(Sanchez, currently on the disabled list, has made one relief appearance. Wisler was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.)

The bullpen numbers are worse, possibly in part because the starters have averaged only 5.4 innings per start. The relievers have combined stats of a 6-7 record with a 4.02 ERA over 94 innings. They have allowed 71 hits, 42 earned runs, 66 walks and eight home runs and have recorded 94 strikeouts.

Here is a look at their statistics of the starting pitchers:

Teheran (5 starts)

1-1, 4.00 ERA, 27 IP, 24 hits, 12 ERs, 14 BBs, 27 Ks, 5 HRs

Foltynewicz (5 starts)

1-1, 2.77 ERA, 26 IP, 21 hits, 8 ERs, 13 BBs, 33 Ks, 3 HRs

McCarthy (5 starts)

3-0, 3.38 ERA, 26 IP, 26 hits, 10 ERs, 9 BBs, 19 Ks, 4 HRs

Newcomb (5 starts)

1-1, 4.23 ERA, 27-2/3 IP, 27 hits, 13 ERs, 14 BBs, 34 Ks, 3 HRs

Sanchez (2 starts)

1-0, 1.64 ERA, 11 IP, 10 hits, 2 ERs, 3 BBs, 12 Ks, 1 HR (Note: In his one game out of the bullpen, Sanchez is 1-0, 1.29 ERA, 14 IP, 11 hits, 3 ERs, 6 BBs, 14 Ks)

Wisler (2 starts)

1-0, 3.75 ERA, 12 IP, 11 hits, 5 ERs, 3 BBs, 8 Ks, 2 HRs

Braves starters have pitched 58 percent of the team’s innings and accounted for 62.6 percent of the hits allowed, 54.3 percent of the earned runs allowed, 45.9 percent of the walks allowed, 58.6 percent of the strikeouts and 61.9 percent of the home runs.
