Former Braves ace John Smoltz is hitting the links again.

Smoltz will compete in a local qualifier for the U.S. Open on Tuesday at The River Club in Suwanee. Less than three weeks ago he competed in the Nationwide Tour's South Georgia Classic. He missed the cut after shooting 84-87.

More than 100 players will compete on Tuesday for eight spots and two alternate positions to advance to the U.S. Open sectional qualifying. The U.S. Open will be held at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., June 16-19.

Smoltz, who won 213 games and saved 154 more in a likely Baseball Hall of Fame career spent mostly with the Braves, attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open last year at Marietta Country Club, but didn't advance after shooting 6-over par.
