Ronald Acuna’s most vigorous afternoon of agility testing went well, according to his reaction afterward.
Acuna participated in full base-running drills Saturday afternoon. Bench coach Walt Weiss and first-base coach Eric Young Sr. were among those coordinating the workout.
He greeted manager Brian Snitker with a smile as he left the field. Snitker asked if he was ready, and Acuna yelled he was “ready to go.”
While Acuna’s previous tests had been successful, and he took batting practice with no issues, the Braves wanted to see him going full-speed before determining if he was ready to begin a rehab assignment.
Acuna has maintained he could play today, but trusts the medical staff’s evaluation. Snitker said they’ll send Acuna on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett or Single-A Rome when the staff signs off.
The Braves’ No. 1 prospect has been on the disabled list since May 27 after suffering a sprained ligament and contusions in his left knee and lower back. He was hurt falling after running through first base in Boston.
Acuna has hit .265 with five homers and 13 RBIs through his first 29 games.
