Former major league pitcher Kerry Wood discovered a man's body Monday in Lake Michigan, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Wood was paddleboarding in Chicago's Belmont Harbor when he spotted the body and called 911, according to the report.

The Tribune report states the victim is a 40-year-old man who was wearing an identification tag on his left wrist that indicated he had been reported missing by a nursing home after being released June 19 by a hospital.

Wood retired in May 2012 after spending parts of 13 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees. Wood still lives in Chicago and had worked for the Cubs as an instructor during spring training.
