After falling short in 11 innings Friday night, the Braves will try to win their season-opening series when they face the Phillies again Saturday at SunTrust Park.

The Braves momentarily held a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning Friday night, but a review of Peter Bourjos’ slide at home overturned a ruling of safe, ending the inning and the Braves’ bid to take the lead. The Phillies then prevailed 5-4 in 11 innings.

Brandon McCarthy will make his regular-season Braves debut in today’s 7:10 p.m. game. McCarthy had three strong outings in the spring, but a so-so final start. He was 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA in Grapefruit League play.

Phillies righty Vince Velasquez will start opposite McCarthy. Velasquez was 2-7 with a 5.13 ERA last season. He faced the Braves on July 30, when he allowed no runs on six hits in seven innings. He struck out six and walked two.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
